An Extra just to keep you on your toes
When my kids were young we used to give them “story problems” without telling them they were learning mathematics in the process. So here’s a calculation for anyone up to the challenge. I’ll address it to my grandkids so it can be done in new-math mode!
Grandpa goes out to walk around the pool deck area on a cruise ship. Under normal circumstances he walks at a perfect 20 minute per mile pace. This evening, while walking, the ship is traveling at 12 knots as he circles the pool area. When finished his distance tracker shows the following data. How far did Grandpa walk tonight?
Looks like Grandpa walked 1.16 miles around the pool, he might of traveled farther if there were bikinis in the pool. Then again he might have gotten wet as he trips from not watching where he was going.
